Aurelio and Roberto had been in the street for a few years. They came to the US from Cuba on the Mariel boat lift and landed up in the streets of Adams Morgan during the time of many vacant buildings. La Casa Shelter had been open for 7 years, and most of the Cuban Marielitos who lived in the streets had a bed at La Casa.
Here they sit next to the loading dock at Safeway. Aurelio sits on a milk crate.
